Introduction

St John’s is a popular Church of England infant school set in the village of Churt, which is between Haslemere and Farnham in Surrey.  The school is a one-form entry with the capacity for 90 children ranging from 4-7 years.  We can accept 30 children into each year group.  Staff and governors work together to create a warm, happy, stimulating and caring environment in which the children can grow and develop.

Churt has a thriving community spirit and the school gets involved in many village activities. We are proud of our link with the community and the village particularly enjoys seeing the children at Easter, wearing their Easter bonnets, carol singing at Christmas and seeing the country dancing display put on by our Year 2 pupils every year for the village fete.

As a church school we have very close links with St. John’s Parish Church and a local minister comes into school to take assemblies on a very regular basis. Our special assemblies (Harvest, Christingle, Easter and the Year 2 Leavers' Service) are held at St. John’s Church with the school and church working closely together. The children visit the church as part of the RE, geography and history curriculum.

The school curriculum fulfils all the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, National Curriculum and the Diocesan Syllabus for Religious Education. The staff and governors fully endorse the entitlement of every pupil to experience a broad and balanced curriculum.  The curriculum is enhanced by educational school trips and by inviting visitors into the school.

We also help others by supporting local charities and organisations in need. We have an annual Macmillan coffee morning, are working alongside Churt village on our net zero targets and run fundraisers throughout the year for charities chosen by the children.
